Column Free MRI Consultation – Case #2 | International Lumbago Clinic Tokyo Blog

Patient

Female in her 30s

Presenting Symptoms

  • She has had dull pain in the lower back for the past 6 years, with sporadic episodes of severe pain.
  • The pain may have been caused by frequent heavy lifting.
  • The pain tends to occur when standing for a long time or leaning forward.
  • On a scale of 1 to 10, the pain is 5 in the lower back, 2 in the hips, and 1 in the legs, with no symptoms of numbness.
  • Daily activities are generally not difficult, but maintaining a crouching posture and standing position are somewhat difficult.

MRI Imaging & Diagnostic

  • Disc degeneration observed at L3/4 and L4/5.
  • Disc herniation is seen at L4/5. This is causing compression of the spinal canal and nerve roots.
  • At L3/4, there is no obvious disc herniation, but there appears to be disc degeneration and a very slight disc herniation.

Since the free MRI diagnosis is just based on the findings of the medical questionnaire and imaging diagnosis, actual consultation is the only way to find the best solution to treat the symptoms.

Recommended Treatment

We believe that the Cellgel method for L4/5 would be effective on the existing symptoms.

For L3/4, it is not necessary per se to perform the Cellgel procedure now, but it may be a good idea to perform it for prevention in the future. From this point onward, we will examine the patient and explain the necessity of the treatment to the patient in detail before deciding on the best treatment.
