Column A List of Doctor Tips About Things to Avoid to Prevent Your Back Pain from Getting Worse
August 28, 2026
Lower back pain is one of the most common health problems in the world.
When you have lower back pain, some actions that you may unconsciously do can actually aggravate the pain.
In this article, we explain some of the common behaviors you should avoid if you suffer from lower back pain.

Behaviors That May Worsen Lower Back Pain
✖ Staying in bed all the time due to the pain
When your lower back hurts, you may not feel like moving around so much.
However, staying in bed for prolonged periods can cause the muscles around the lower back to become stiff, reduce blood circulation, and decrease physical strength. As a result, the pain may become worse.
✖ Adopting an unbalanced posture to avoid the pain
Putting all your weight on one leg to avoid putting pressure on the painful side, or crossing your legs while sitting, may also worsen lower back pain.
When your weight is concentrated on one side, it can place excessive stress on specific muscles by affecting the alignment of the pelvis and spine. This may also cause the pain to become more severe.
✖ Remaining in the same posture for long periods
If you do desk work and always stay in the same position, your muscles tend to become tense and stiff. This will lead to poor circulation and aggravate the pain.
✖ Forcing yourself to stretch to alleviate the pain
In an effort to recover quickly, some people sometimes decide to twist their lower back without supervision or perform stretches by bending forward or backward despite the pain. This can cause further injury to the muscles and other tissues.
When inflammation is present, forcing yourself to stretch may instead prolong it, causing the pain to persist and become more severe rather than to improve it.
✖ Bending at the waist or twisting your body to pick things up
When picking up something from the floor, people often lean forward with a rounded back without bending their knees.
This type of posture places significant stress on the intervertebral discs and lower back muscles and may also aggravate the pain.
Measures to Prevent Lower Back Pain from Getting Worse
◎Move your body constantly (even if only a little at a time)
Except during periods of severe acute pain, try to maintain your normal daily activities within a pain-free range. Gentle activities such as walking are important for gradually getting your body to move again.
◎ Avoid sitting for prolonged periods
When performing desk work, try to stand up and move lightly once every 30 to 60 minutes.
◎ Do your stretches within a comfortable range
During periods of severe acute pain, avoid forced physical activities. Once the pain has settled down, gently stretch your back within a range that does not place excessive stress on your lower back.
◎ Bend your knees when lifting objects
When lifting an object up, bend your knees and lower your hips, bring the object close to your body, and only then stand up.
When washing your face, it is also helpful to take one foot back or slightly bend your knees.

Treatment at Our Clinics
If low back pain is present, it is crucial not to leave it untreated and to receive a diagnosis from a specialist as soon as possible. Early detection and appropriate treatment can prevent aggravation of the symptoms, and make a complete recovery also possible.
Our clinic provides the Cellgel Method, a treatment designed to repair damaged intervertebral discs.
A therapeutic agent is injected into the cracks in the intervertebral disc, which then turns into a gel and seals the cracks, helping prevent further disc degeneration and also serving as a fundamental treatment.
One of the key features of this treatment is that the volume of the intervertebral disc does not decrease, and after treatment, the medication remains in the disc as a gel-like implant, helping preserve the intervertebral discs.
