Column Treatment Progress No. 27 A Patient whose symptoms improved 6 months after treatment at our clinic

Patient

Female in her 80s

Treated in October 2022. About 6 months have passed since the treatment

Symptoms and treatment

The patient had degenerative disc disease in the area indicated by the red rectangle (discs 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5 and 5/s).

Intervertebral disc L5/s was confirmed to be a slipped disc.

Evolution prior to treatment

She always felt a constant pain in her lower back.

When she moved in 2021, her pain got worse.

In August 2022, while cleaning a high place, she felt a strong pain and numbness in her lower left leg.

When she received treatment at a orthopedic clinic, she received a block shot and some painkillers, but the condition did not improve, so she consulted with our clinic.

The treatment at our clinic

The patient was treated with the Cellgel method on a total of 5 intervertebral discs (1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5, and 5/s).

Evolution consecutive to treatment

The following is a chart in which the patient herself rated the pain value of each area on a scale of 0 to 10.

No pain at all is rated as 0, and the maximum possible pain is rated as 10.

The following comments were obtained from the patient when contacted for follow-up.

After one week, she felt better after the first two days, but on the third day, the pain and numbness returned.

After 1 month, there was intense numbness in her left leg below the knee to above the ankle and she could not walk.

After 3 months, the numbness moved from the thigh to the ankle, and the numbness from before the treatment had returned. She could move around using the help of a small cart.

After 6 months, when carrying heavy items, she felt pain in her back and legs, but other than that, she felt no symptoms in her daily life. She could walk around without the use of a cane or a cart and shopping became fun for her.

For this patient, it took around 6 months for a result of the treatment to be seen.

Until about 3 months after the treatment, she was very suspicious that an improvement would be seen, but gradually, as her symptoms became better, she became positive in her outlook.

The cellgel treatment will help improve you gradually, so we think it’s a treatment that will help you feel better than you did before.

※ It takes about 3 weeks to 3 months to see the effect of the treatment.

※ The effect of the treatment varies from person to person. Please be aware that there is a possibility that the same effect may not be obtained.

Our clinic’s treatment method

Additional information about the Cellgel method we have introduced in this column.

Cost of the Cellgel method: 1,420,000 yen per area (including tax) to 1,860,000 yen per 5 areas (including tax)

Risks and side effects of the Cellgel method: Transient pain may occur after treatment. Nerve damage is not a zero possibility due to the very nature of the treatment, but there have been no reports of damage so far in either report cases or publications. There is a very small possibility of allergic reactions to local anesthetics. Symptoms may temporarily worsen during the first week or two after treatment. This is believed to be due to the decompression effect of the implant, which retracts the surrounding tissues. In addition, if the disc is almost completely collapsed, treatment may be difficult. The doctor hold a consultation with you during your visit to the clinic to determine the best treatment option for your condition.
