Column Treatment Progress No.32 A patient who had more pain a week after treatment
Patient
Female in her 70s
Treated in January 2023, about 4 months have passed since the treatment
Symptoms and treatment
The patient was diagnosed with degenerative disc syndrome in the area indicated by the red rectangle (disc L1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5, and 5/s).
The L2/3, 3/4, and 4/5 discs have shrunk to a small degree. The L4/5 disc has shrunk too far, so it is not able to be treated.
Evolution prior to treatment
In her 20s, she was hospitalized with a hernia in her intervertebral disc.
In the summer of 2020, her joints around the left leg became painful. She was advised to have surgery, but she declined.
She found out about our clinic and decided to have treatment here.
The treatment at our clinic
The patient was treated with the Cellgel method on 4 intervertebral discs (L1/2, 2/3, 3/4, and 5/s).
Evolution consecutive to treatment

No pain at all is rated as 0, and the maximum possible pain is rated as 10.

Before treatment | 6 | 7 | 0 | 7 |

3 months after treatment | 3 | 3 | 0 | 3 |
The following comments were obtained from the patient when contacted for follow-up.
After one week, the pain in her left buttocks had continued.
After 1 month, she felt a strong pain while walking. Her joints were in constant pain.
After 3 months, the pain has mostly gone away. Even the pain in her buttocks has evolved into a much smaller amount of pain.
Usually, for about a week after the treatment, the level of pain relief is about the same as a block shot.
After that, the effect slightly fades away, leading to an increase in pain. However, with the passage of time, the pain and intensity will gradually fade away.
The patient this time had pain in her joints, so we think it had a

Our clinic’s treatment method
Additional information about the Cellgel method we have introduced in this column.
Cost of the Cellgel method: 1,420,000 yen per area (including tax) to 1,860,000 yen per 5 areas (including tax)
Risks and side effects of the Cellgel method: Transient pain may occur after treatment. Nerve damage is not a zero possibility due to the very nature of the treatment, but there have been no reports of damage so far in either report cases or publications. There is a very small possibility of allergic reactions to local anesthetics. Symptoms may temporarily worsen during the first week or two after treatment. This is believed to be due to the decompression effect of the implant, which retracts the surrounding tissues. In addition, if the disc is almost completely collapsed, treatment may be difficult. The doctor hold a consultation with you during your visit to the clinic to determine the best treatment option for your condition.
