Column Treatment Progress Report No. 191: A Patient Whose Symptoms Disappeared at an Early Stage Following Treatment
The patient
A male patient in his 70s
Treated in March 2024. Approximately 12 months have passed since treatment.
Symptoms and treatments to date
This patient was found to have lumbar spinal canal stenosis at the levels indicated by the red frame (L3/4, L4/5, and L5/S1).
Pre-treatment medical history and treatments to date
From around February 2023, the patient frequently experienced pain in the right buttock region. He visited a local orthopedic clinic and was diagnosed with lumbar spinal canal stenosis. Conservative management with analgesic medication was initiated, and the condition was monitored.
The patient visited our clinic seeking to improve her symptoms.
Post-treatment progress
The table below shows the results of the patient’s own evaluation of the pain in each body site on a scale of 0 to 10.
No pain at all is rated as 0 and 10 as the maximum possible pain.

The following is feedback from the patient when contacted for follow-up.
At 1 week:
Apart from a sense of discomfort and dullness in the lower back, all other symptoms had resolved.
At 1 month:
The lumbar discomfort had also disappeared, and he was able to live symptom-free.
At 3 months:
He traveled overseas and walked extensively without experiencing any recurrence of symptoms afterward.
At 6 months:
He remained asymptomatic and stable.
This patient suffered from lumbar spinal canal stenosis. It was considered highly likely that the intervertebral discs were the primary cause of his symptoms, which may explain the particularly favorable response to the Cellgel Method.
The patient also maintained a regular exercise routine on his own and managed his condition effectively in daily life.

Risks and Side Effects:
Temporary pain may occur after treatment.
Nerve injury is theoretically possible due to the nature of the procedure, but no such cases have been reported in our own experience or in published studies.
Extremely rare risk of allergic reaction to local anesthetic.
Symptoms may temporarily worsen for 1–2 weeks after treatment, believed to be due to decompression effects of the implant pulling on surrounding tissue.
If the disc is severely collapsed or nearly gone, treatment may not be possible.
The physician will discuss suitable treatment options with each patient depending on their condition.
