The patient

A male patient in his 50s

Patient’s medical history to date

 

He had his first experience of lumbar strain 20 years ago.

Their frequency increased from once every 3 years to every 2 years, and then every six months.

He tried changing his bedding and making other adjustments, but his back pain kept getting worse.

The patient came to consult at our clinic seeking improvement of his symptoms.

Symptoms prior to treatment

Pain when in an upright position.

Severe pain upon waking up.

Main areas of numbness: lower back

Forward bending: Possible

Backward bending: Possible

Lasegue test: negative

Pressure points: Left L3/4, Left L4/5. Positive

Coughing and sneezing: He must hold on to something to prevent the pain.

・Daily activities

When washing one’s face or sitting down, the pain is relieved because of the change in posture.

 

Images and Findings

  • L4/5, 5/s-hernia of the intervertebral disc
  • L1/2-intervertebral disc degeneration and protrusion

The above is confirmed by the imaging.

L4/5, 5/s-disc herniation and spinal canal compression are highly likely to be the cause of the symptoms.

Treatment 

The treatment was performed by Dr. Maruyama.

The treatment took about 40 minutes.

After resting in the recovery room, the patient was able to walk home by himself.

Risks and side effects of the Cellgel method: Transient pain may occur after treatment. Nerve damage is not a zero possibility due to the very nature of the treatment, but there have been no reports of damage so far in either report cases or publications. There is a very small possibility of allergic reactions to local anesthetics. Symptoms may temporarily worsen during the first week or two after treatment. This is believed to be due to the decompression effect of the implant, which retracts the surrounding tissues. In addition, if the disc is almost completely collapsed, treatment may be difficult. The doctor hold a consultation with you during your visit to the clinic to determine the best treatment option for your condition.
