The patient
A male patient in his 70’s
The patient’s medical history to date
He used to walk a lot, but about 6 months ago, he started to have pain from his right hip to his leg.
He also started having pain from his right hip to his leg.
He was diagnosed with spinal canal stenosis by an orthopedic surgeon.
He took medication, applied muscle patches, and started taking walks in the pool, but his pain did not heal, so he came to our clinic seeking improvement of his symptoms.
Symptoms before treatment
Numbness in both feet.
Pain and numbness from the right groin to the lower buttock.

Forward bending: Possible
Backward bending: Painful on the right side
Lasegue test: Negative

Coughing, sneezing: No effect
Standing on heels: Possible

・Daily activities
Symptoms are relieved when in a sitting position. Painful when standing up.
He used to be unable to turn over in bed, but recently he has been able to do so.
Imaging and findings
- L1/2, 5/s – disc degeneration and protrusion
- L2/3, 3/4, 4/5-Spinal canal stenosis
- L4/5,5/s-Intervertebral foramen stenosis
The above is confirmed by the imaging.
L1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5, protruding disc, spinal canal compression due to spinal canal stenosis, and is the most likely cause of symptoms going from the buttocks to the legs.
L5/s from a purely prophylactic aspect.
Treatment
After consultation with the patient, the Cellgel procedure was performed on L1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5, and 5/s.
The treatment was performed by Dr. Maruyama.
The treatment took about 55 minutes.
After resting in the recovery room, the patient was able to walk home by himself.

Risks and side effects of the Cellgel method: Transient pain may occur after treatment. Nerve damage is not a zero possibility due to the very nature of the treatment, but there have been no reports of damage so far in either report cases or publications. There is a very small possibility of allergic reactions to local anesthetics. Symptoms may temporarily worsen during the first week or two after treatment. This is believed to be due to the decompression effect of the implant, which retracts the surrounding tissues. In addition, if the disc is almost completely collapsed, treatment may be difficult. The doctor hold a consultation with you during your visit to the clinic to determine the best treatment option for your condition.
