Column Treatment Report No.23: the case of a patient who showed early improvement of pain and numbness after treatment

The patient: Male in his 70s

April 21, 2023

Treated in November, 2022. 5 months have elapsed since he received treatment

Symptoms and treatment

The patient had scoliosis findings in the areas indicated by the red rectangles (discs 2/3, 3/4, 4/5, and 5/s).

Disc degeneration was observed on discs L2/3,3/4.4/5,5/s.

Progression before treatment

10 years ago, he began to have pain and numbness from his lower back to his lower extremities when walking or standing.

6 years ago, he started having difficulty walking, and recently he was only able to walk for about 100 meters, which is why he decided to come to our clinic for treatment.

Treatment

Treatment was performed with the Cellgel method on a total of 4 disc sites (2/3, 3/4, 4/5, and 5/s).

Progression after treatment

The table below shows the patient’s evaluation of pain in each area on a scale of 0 to 10.

The case of no pain at all is rated as 0, and the maximum possible pain is rated as 10.

The following are extracted from the feedback from the patient when contacted for the follow-ups:

-At the one-week follow-up, the patient had no pain and was able to take a short walk.

-After the 1-month mark, both pain and numbness were gone. He is now working on correcting his walking habits.

-After 3 months, the pain and numbness were the same as at 1 month. The patient has been improving his walking posture through rehabilitation.

In this case, the treatment was effective early on for this patient.

Currently, he is more concerned about his habit of walking than by the pain, and is making efforts to improve his walking posture while attending the rehabilitation center affiliated to our clinic.

* It usually takes about 3 weeks to 3 months to see the full effects of the treatment.

* There may be individual differences in the effects of the treatment. Please be aware that the same exact results may not be replicated depending on the patients.

Treatments at our Clinic

Here is some additional information about the Cellgel method that we have introduced here.

Cost of the Cellgel method: 1,320,000 yen per site (including tax) to 1,760,000 yen per 5 sites (including tax) .

Risks and side effects of the Cellgel method:Transient pain may occur after treatment. Nerve damage is never a zero possibility due to the very nature of the treatment, but there have been no reports of damage in either report cases or in publications. There is a very small possibility of allergic reactions to local anesthetics. Symptoms may temporarily worsen during the first week or two after treatment. This is believed to be due to the decompression effect of the implant, which retracts the surrounding tissues. In addition, if the disc has lost its volume almost completely, it may not be possible to perform the treatment. The doctor will consult with you at the time of your visit to determine the best treatment option for your condition.
