Column Treatment Progress No.43 A patient who received treatment for preventative reasons

Patient

Female in her 70s

Treated in February 2023. About 5 months have passed since the treatment

Symptoms and treatment

The patient had disc herniation in the L2/3 and 3/4 intervertebral discs that can be seen in the red rectangle above.

The L1/2 through 5/s discs show evidence of a disc degeneration.

Evolution prior to treatment

20 years ago, he experienced back pain regularly and occasionally was not able to walk for over a week.

In January 2023, while washing his face, he felt a sharp pain in his back while leaning forward. After that, he was unable to sleep at night.

He visited two orthopedic clinics, one told him to just wait and see, the other recommended him to have endoscopic surgery.

When he received treatment, he did not feel any pain, but taking in consideration his condition, he decided to have treatment at our clinic.

The treatment at our clinic

The patient was treated with the Cellgel method on 5 intervertebral discs (L1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5 and 5/s).

Evolution consecutive to treatment

The following is a chart in which the patient herself rated the pain value of each area on a scale of 0 to 10.

No pain at all is rated as 0, and the maximum possible pain is rated as 10.

The following comments were obtained from the patient when contacted for follow-up.

After one week, he felt some heaviness and pain in his lower back.

After 1 month, he occasionally felt pain in his back but other than that, no other pain in any other part of his body.

After 3 months, the level of pain hasn’t changed but nothing got worse, so he feels confident about his condition.

The patient this time had high levels of pain before the treatment, but saw an improvement almost immediately.

The patient this time was not in pain at the time of treatment but in terms of a preventative measure, it became a large treatment.

When looking at his imagery data in January 2023, we confirmed a hernia, which we believe was the source of his pain.

We treated all of his lumbar discs this time, so we are hopeful that he will not experience the same pain again as his discs are regenerated.

※ It takes about 3 weeks to 3 months to see the effect of the treatment.

※ The effect of the treatment varies from person to person. Please be aware that there is a possibility that the same effect may not be obtained.

Our clinic’s treatment method

Additional information about the Cellgel method we have introduced in this column.

Cost of the Cellgel method: 1,320,000 yen per area (including tax) to 1,760,000 yen per 5 areas (including tax)

Risks and side effects of the Cellgel method: Transient pain may occur after treatment. Nerve damage is not a zero possibility due to the very nature of the treatment, but there have been no reports of damage so far in either report cases or publications. There is a very small possibility of allergic reactions to local anesthetics. Symptoms may temporarily worsen during the first week or two after treatment. This is believed to be due to the decompression effect of the implant, which retracts the surrounding tissues. In addition, if the disc is almost completely collapsed, treatment may be difficult. The doctor hold a consultation with you during your visit to the clinic to determine the best treatment option for your condition.
